My first week of my junior year was a little different from every other year. When I walked in the doors, I welcomed the smell of people, old books, and copied paper. I honestly felt no worries as I spent the day in all my classes. I caught myself smiling at the corny, odd moments in class and I was actually having fun. The teachers were actually cool and interesting people; they seem to draw you in with the glimmer in their eyes (if that makes any sense). I welcomed the work and the smiles and pouting faces when the teacher brought the subject of doing actual "work".
What was the most significant thing that happened to me? Well that has to be when I realized that this year was going to be different. I realized that this was the year that my life in high school truly begins and I start the college journey. I take SAT's and ACT's this year and I start applying for scholarships! The importance of this didn't really happen this week; I've thought about it everyday since I was a freshman, but my first day really opened my eyes! My teachers talked about college a lot and I kept hearing "this is the year you change", and I realized that they were right! I am no longer the same freshman that I was when I first walked into this school.
I When I first really realized it, I believe I was in Chemistry Honors (1st Period) when my teacher was asking us what we were going to do and major in in college and if we knew which one we were going to apply to and hopefully attend and I couldn't answer her. I knew this time would come, but it felt like I was just getting into high school and was just starting out. I felt myself go cold as I knew that I was going to have to grow up and make these life changing decisions this year and the following year. I knew my studies were going to become my priority and other activities were going to have to work around my education.
I knew I was going to college and this first week of school has really brought me closer to realizing how close I am getting to graduating and taking on the next step in my life. To say that this was a pretty significant thing is pretty accurate. I guess that's not what one really expects when they ask someone "What was the most significant thing that happened to you during your first week of school", huh? Some people have little greetings, pranks, jokes, and great memories of their first day of school; mine just happened to be a realization of my future!
